| The Hotel
del Coronado in San Diego, California, is situated along 31 oceanfront
acres on Coronado Island. A National Historic Landmark, The Del is
considered one of America’s most beautiful resorts. Since its opening in
1888, The Del has attracted filmmakers, presidents and royalty. ‘Some
Like It Hot’, starring Marilyn Monroe, was shot at the resort in 1958
and enjoyed renewed interest in 2000 when it was voted the ‘Best Comedy
of All Time’ by the American Film Institute. Considered the Western
White House, the resort has hosted ten United States presidents. One of
the most famous visitors was the Prince of Wales in 1920. Sixteen years
later, Edward abdicated the throne to marry Coronado resident, Wallis
Simpson. Many have wondered if they met at The Del.
Today, the legend continues to unfold with
the recent unveiling of the dramatic enhancements of a $55 million
restoration. The restoration takes advantage of the resort’s spectacular
setting by re-establishing The Del’s connection to the Pacific with an
oceanfront lawn, new seaside restaurants, bar, re-designed Victorian
rooms and the Cottages at North Beach, offering exclusive beachfront
accommodations.
With year-round sunshine and classic
Victorian architecture, The Del is a favorite for romantic getaways,
family adventures, meetings and conferences. Featuring a fully staffed
recreation department, the resort offers children’s programs, sports and
recreation, fitness classes and seasonal activities. Guests can pamper
themselves at the oceanfront Spa and Fitness Center with a variety of
massage options and body treatments. Sailing and boating are offered at
the marina and golf is available on the Island. The resort features a
variety of dining venues offering award-winning cuisine, historic
ambiance and premier beachfront dining. In addition, over 20 boutiques
and shops offer everything from jewelry and toys to men’s and women’s

The Hotel
del Coronado offers a variety of unique guestroom options. The recently
redecorated and air-conditioned Victorian rooms feature historic
ambiance and classic Victorian décor. The rooms in the contemporary
seven-story Ocean Towers and the California Cabanas have been
re-designed to reflect The Del’s premier oceanfront setting, using
tranquil water-themed fabrics and colors. Overlooking the Pacific, the
new Cottages at North Beach offer eight exclusive guestroom
accommodations with private balconies and beach access. The Beach House
(where Marilyn Monroe stayed during the filming of 'Some Like It Hot')
is a 2000 square foot, two-bedroom hideaway, offering the ultimate in
beachfront luxury.
There is a 7 day cancellation policy in effect year round.

Sheerwater,
is the resort’s brand-new oceanfront restaurant. Featuring California
coastal cuisine - regional specialties that emphasize bold flavors,
tantalizing spices and seasonally inspired menus – and expansive outdoor
dining terraces, Sheerwater offers one of the finest oceanfront dining
venues on the West Coast. Sheerwater serves breakfast, lunch, cocktails,
tapas and dinner daily from 7:00AM – 10:00PM. Entrees range from $15 -
$27.
Prince of Wales, the resort’s fine dining restaurant, recently voted
“Most Romantic Restaurant in San Diego,” offers a seasonally inspired
menu combining classic cuisine with innovative interpretations as well
as a distinctive library wine list. Prince of Wales recently added
spectacular outdoor terraces, combining the legendary romantic ambiance
with unparalleled ocean and sunset views. The restaurant is open for
dinner nightly from 5:30PM to 10:00PM, featuring jazz piano. Entrees
range from $22 – $29 per person. |
